Donna Karan and Parsons with new design school in Haiti
Here is Donna Karan as she intends to team up with Parsons to create new design school in Haiti
Donna Karan, or "DK", is an American fashion designer and the creator of the "DKNY" clothing labels (Donna Karan New York). She was deeply impressed by the inherent natural craftsmanship of Haitians when she first visited Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. Instead of seeing the country's devastation, Donna saw Haiti's potential through the eyes of creativity. She felt it was really important to give them something so that they can help them with their enormous artisan talents and she decided to create a holistic community--a community which will be created through the preservation own culture and native art using indigenous resources like tobacco leaves, metal works, stone, etc. Donna Karan has teamed up with 'Parsons the New School for Design' from Manhattan to train Haitian artisans through the Urban Zen foundation by providing models of sustainable commerce through DOT or "The Design, Organization, Training Center" for emerging artists in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
