Haitian President Rene Preval And His Government
Rene Preval is credited for being the second president of Haiti democratically elected. Once in power, he faced several challenges. In 1999, after disagreements with the elected deputies of the country, he dissolved parliament and ruled by decree. In 2006, he again became president.
Preval made numerous economic reforms to the country. Many government entities were privatized. He was also credited for bringing the Haitian unemployment rate to the lowest in its history.
