Michel Martelly wants MINUSTAH transformed to development mission
While on a visit to Chile, Haitian president made his intention known about what he wants out of The United Nation Peace keeping force, MINUSTAH. According to the Haitian president, Michel Martelly, the 12,000 soldiers that make the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti could be used in a better way than maintaining peace in Haiti, which is their only function at this time.
Chile is a major contributor to the UN force. The former Chilean foreign minister Mariano Fernandez is currently the head of MINUSTAH in Haiti. In addition, 500 Chileans are among MINUSTAH, providing security and peace keeping in Haiti« Previous · Next »
