He was Born in Buenos Aires and ordained a priest in 1969. From 1973 to 1979 he was Argentina's Provincial Superior of the Society of Jesus.In January 2014, Pope Francis elevate a total of 19 prelates to the rank of cardinal, one of which is Haitian. these Cardinals will be part of the elite group of men who advise him on an ongoing basis. they can one day elect his successor.
