Louis Dejoie, a political leader in Haiti with Daniel Fignole
During the Pre-Duvalier time. The political environment in Haiti was very unstable and one of the leaders was the mulatto, landowner, industrialist, and Haitian Politician Louis Dejoie. The next president of Haiti was expected to be either Daniel Fignole or Louis Dejoie. Unfortunately none of the two became president.
Francois Duvalier was elected president of Haiti. After his landslide victory, Francois Duvalier exiled Dejoie's supporters and established a new constitution.

President Franck Sylvain's Two-Month Presidency
Franck Sylvain, born August 3, 1909 in Grand Goâve, was an attorney, judge, politician, and short-term president of Haiti.
During his political career he held conservative views, establishing in 1934 an anti-communist newspaper "The Crusade". In party politics he led, establishing an underground political organization, "Gathering of the Haitian People".
Parliament selected him as President Joseph Pierre-Louis's successor. He served 56 days before being ousted by General Leon Cantave. His memoirs are entitled The 56 Days of Franck Sylvain.

Fignole was committed to his cause. At various point of his life, he was beaten, and imprisoned by authorities for his labor activism. Under the government of Dumarsais Estime he became the Minister of Education, however, he refused to decrease his attacks on the mulatto elite.

In May 1957, Fignolé was designated as provisional president of Haiti.
With the international community and many elements of Haiti's traditional power structure fighting against him, Fignolé could not hold onto power.
After 19 days in office, Fgnole was forced out of the presidency by the Haitian military with the support of U.S. force. He was forced at gunpoint to sign a resignation letter, and bundled him into a waiting car

Daniel Fignole was very intelligent and excelled in school.
He co-founded a newspaper called Chantiers in 1942. He specifically went after the Mulato elite in Haiti for their selfishness and advocate for social programs to uplift the majority black poor class. This newspaper was ordered closed by president Elie Lescot
President Daniel Fignole escorted out of the country
Here is a picture of President Daniel Fignole as he is escorted out of the country. This took place following a Coup DEtat where President Daniel Fignole was obligated to leave Haiti.
Daniel Fignole became Haiti's provisional head of state for a period of three weeks in 1957.
He was at the head of a liberal labor organizer. Born in the coastal town of Pestel to a poor family, he moved to Port-au-Prince in 1927 at age 14 to continue his education. Following his education, Daniel Fignole started his professional career as he was tutoring the children of Haiti's wealthy elite.
