Haiti Election 2010
Originally scheduled for February 28, 2010 the date of the 2010 Haiti election had to be changed to November 28, due to the massive earthquake of January 12. This election was to be organized to elect the president, 99 deputies and ten senators.
Fanmi Lavalas, the party founded by former president Rene Preval was not allowed to participate in this election. Wyclef Jean, the Hip Hop superstar was also not allowed to take part of this election
Close to 200 Political parties registered for election in 2015 Haiti Election
Registered Parties for Election need CEP Approval
By midnight on March 20, 2015 registration ended for parties wanting to participate in general elections. The Annex Electoral Council (CEP) recorded 187 well-known and anonymous political groups.
Radical group Pitit Desalin was registered by ex-Senator Jean-Charles. The Patriotic Movement for Democratic Opposition was registered by its founder Mirlande Manigat.
All registered parties must be verified by CEP on the basis of required documentation. Those approved will be officially sanctioned for participation in the elections.
Fifty eight presidential candidates in Haiti Election
A new record has been established in this election year in Haiti where Fifty eight presidential candidates have been approved to participate in the Election.
58 Candidates Approved by Electoral Council for Fall Presidential Election
Many contenders for the office of the presidency are wading into battle. Some names being rumored to run are Maryse Narcisse, Jude Celestin, Edgard Leblanc Fils, Francisco De La Cruz, and Alexandre Jean-Marie Getheens.
Ex-Prime Minster Laurent Lamothe has sought the office but was rejected because he did not possess a discharge document, verifying he administered public monies correctly.
