Centre D'Art founded in 1944 by Dewitt Peters
This is the founder of the Centre D'Art Haitian, Dewitt Peters, in the lated 1940s in Haiti. He was in charge of the art center and at the same time responsible to search for new local artists in the community. During its thirteen years in existence, the centre d'art managed to expose the artistical talent of many Haitians who became renowned artists. A large percentage of these artists came from the lower and poor class an the Centre D'Art offered to them an opportunity of a lifetime

Here is a picture of the Centre d'Art in Port-au-Prince. The Center was in existance for a total of thirteen years but made such a difference in the Haitian culture. This was one of the few institutions at the time in Haiti that offered an equal opportunity to several hundred Haitian artists

Here is a picture of the Centre D'Art Haitian founded in 1944 by Dewitt Peters. He is an American teacher who went to Haiti with the objective to teach English. However, this did not turn out the way he had planed. Dewitt Peters developed an interest in the Haitian art and as a consequence started teaching art to lots of locals in the area.
