Jean Max Bellerive Cited For Receiving Seven Million in Bribery
On July 27, 2016, the President of the Commission on Anti-Corruption, Senator Youri Latortue cited the name of former Haitian Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive (in office 11 November 2009 - 18 October 2011) for possibly receiving close to US$ 7 million kickback for awarding multi-million dollar contracts to some Dominican companies immediately following the 2010 Haiti earthquake. During the time of issuing these contracts he was the Prime Minister under President Rene Preval. Bellerive was born in Port-au-Prince in 1958. His father was a prominent doctor of the World Health Organization (WHO). Bellerive left Haiti at a very young age to study in Switzerland, France, and Belgium. He is a graduate in Political Science and International Relations; he decided to return to Haiti in 1986, shortly before the fall of Jean-Claude Duvalier. He has worked with many public institutions such as the Secretariat of Tourism, the National Port Authority (APN), the Haitian People's Bank (BPH), the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the Ministry of Haitians Living abroad. In last March, the interim president Jocelerme Privert included him in his executive team as the Chief of Staff.
