ALBA or Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América was formerly known as 'Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America'. It was founded initially in 2004 on the ideology of Simón Bolívar, a 19th-century South American independence leader, well remembered for his contribution to integrate the social, political and economic issues of the Latin American and Caribbean countries. Its recent Extraordinary Meeting was held in Cuba on October 20th with a single agenda--" Development of a coordinated response to the Ebola epidemic". The meeting was attended by the Haitian President Martelly accompanying the First Lady Sophia Martelly and the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe. While addressing the attendees, the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro rightly emphasized on the necessity for immediate actions to confront the epidemic crisis. A message from the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon conveyed its appreciation of the solidarity offered by the ALBA member countries with a special mention for Cuba's extraordinary contribution towards the epidemic issue.
