Well after her death, Edith Lefel remains the darling of the Caribbean and a voice for the Caribbean music. She died suddenly at age 39, from a heart attack.

Her death came to the surprise of many and the French-speaking diaspora in particula. The sentiments were felt all over the world. It generated an outpouring of cards and letters, expressing grief at the passing of such an extraordinary talent.
