While the reception is an affair replete with the kinds of food that are most popular and pleasing to the Haitian palate, the well-known tradition of cake cutting is not practiced by some Haitians. A couple takes their wedding cake home and will cut it at home days after the actual ceremony and reception. This is one of the traditions that does not translate well when being incorporated into other countries, as the cutting and the sharing of the wedding cake can be quite significant in other cultures.

Like Michel Martelly, Gracia Delva ia an accomplished musician. He was the singer and also maestro of the group Mass Kompa. Before he was forced to return to Haiti, Mr. Delva played with the group Zinglen where he became very popular.

Gracia Delva is a Haitian Singer, Composer turned actor who was born on November 20, 1973 at Marchand Dessalinnes in the Lower Artibonite. Delva formed his own group (Mass Konpa) in July 2003. He made his acting debut with the Haitian movie "Le 11eme Commandemant"(or, the 11 Commandments), released in July 2005 and started his music career with the formation of a young group "GEROSTAR". Although the group made him a star, but it lasted for a very short period. In 1992, he joined Djakout Mizik and made glorious performances on Champ de Mars and Eastern Parkway in New York. He left Haiti for U.S in 1996 and met geniuses Zenglen. They two created wonderful songs together like 'DWET 5'. However, his combination with Zenglen also did not last longer. Because of some U.S. immigration issues, Gracia had to leave America and settled in Haiti in 2002. After the music, he entered politics and was elected as MP for Marchand Dessalines and visited U.S on 22 September 2011 as a Member of Marchand Dessalines and also as the President of the Committee on Culture and Tourism. After nine years of absence, Gracia Delva has made his musical comeback with his band Mass Konpa in U.S.A on 19 May 2012.

Martelly Discussions in Germany on Haiti Elections and Investment Opportunities

President Martelly was received by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to talk about stalled legislative and local elections in Haiti. Martelly held opposition party members and defiant senators responsible for the delay. Merkel said she hoped elections would happen soon.

Martelly also met with Hugo Kramer, Chairman of Chambers of Commerce and Industry to promote investment opportunities in Haiti's tourism, infrastructure, and agriculture sectors. Kramer said a delegation would visit Port-au-Prince next year to examine investment possibilities.

ALBA or Alianza Bolivariana para los Pueblos de Nuestra América was formerly known as 'Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America'. It was founded initially in 2004 on the ideology of Simón Bolívar, a 19th-century South American independence leader, well remembered for his contribution to integrate the social, political and economic issues of the Latin American and Caribbean countries. Its recent Extraordinary Meeting was held in Cuba on October 20th with a single agenda--" Development of a coordinated response to the Ebola epidemic". The meeting was attended by the Haitian President Martelly accompanying the First Lady Sophia Martelly and the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe. While addressing the attendees, the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro rightly emphasized on the necessity for immediate actions to confront the epidemic crisis. A message from the U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon conveyed its appreciation of the solidarity offered by the ALBA member countries with a special mention for Cuba's extraordinary contribution towards the epidemic issue.

Recently, on 26 September, there was a meeting of the First Ladies of both Haiti and the Dominican Republic in New York in the context of the United Nations General Assembly meeting. The Haitian First Lady Ms. Sophia Martelly and the Dominican First Lady Cándida Montilla de Medina have talked and discussed on a number of issues concerning early childhood, teenage pregnancy and about a comprehensive disability care center in the Dominican Republic. Ms. Medina has invited Ms. Martelly to visit her office in the Dominican Republic to examine a series of initiatives that her office has undertaken. The meeting of these two First Ladies may clear the stormy relation between these two countries.

First Lady, Sophia Martelly, Surprise Visit to Petit Goâve Mobile Health Clinic

Sophia Martelly, First Lady of Haiti, visited a mobile health clinic in Petit-Goâve on Our Lady of the Assumption feast day. She remained for two days to show petit-goaviennes President Martelly cares about community health.

The new clinic is comprised of two consulting rooms, an on-site pharmacy, and a waiting area. Nearly 400 men, women, and children received no-charge wellness exams and prescription meds. Referrals were given to clients, whose conditions warranted further health services.

Sophia Martelly and Olivier Martelly accused by lawyer Newton Saint-Juste

Haitian lawyer Newton Saint-Juste brought a legal suit against the wife of the Haitian president, Sophia Martelly and his son Olivier Martelly for two presidential decrees given them the authority to manage public funds. These Decrees that is contrary to the Haitian Constitution gave them authorization to run the program "Aba grangou" to create the Commission to Support the Coordination of Infrastructures for Sports. According to Haitian attorney Newton Saint-Juste these deals are valued at hundreds of millions of U.S.

Newton Saint-Juste stated that these acts by President Michel Martelly constitute a duplication of services and likely an excuse to squander the scarce funds in the country.

Nicolas Maduro first official visit to Haiti

Five years after the last visit of former Venezuelan President, late Hugo Chavez, the current head of state of Venezuela, Nicolas Madura paid his first official visit to Haiti. During the visit, Maduro discussed the renewal of special funding for Haiti. Previously, Haiti had received millions of dollars in aid from Venezuela through the PetroCaribe pact that was signed in 2005.
