The Haitian entrepreneur Christine Souffrant and Vendedy Street vandor site

Christine Souffrant is a 25-year old Dubai-based entrepreneur and a graduate of Ivy League University. She could not forget her parents' struggle; they eke out a living as street vendors. Christine has founded 'Vendedy International' that would empower the street vendors globally with access to the digital market. During the 2010 earthquake, she was a college student. She saw her mother's most trading partners went missing or were presumed dead and her business collapsed. It was then she decided about building some 'apps' that would facilitate street vending business, digitally. After graduation, she found a job at Baker Hill Finance in New York. Thereafter, she moved to Dubai to study masters in international business and social entrepreneurship at Hult International Business School. It was there she launched her company for vendors online "Vendedy"-- global street markets in your pocket.

Here is a picture of a Haitian woman involved in the commerce. Due to her limited capacity, she is obligated to find a place in the streets of Port-au-Prince to see if she can make enough to feed her family.

These businesses usually do not find any support from the Haitian government. Access to loan is almost non existant to those business people.

In Haiti, those are the people you usually see everywhere. They are in the street selling their goods, they are on the road toward various cities in Haiti early going to the market place to sell and also very late on the same roads, returning after a hard day of work with often little to no compensation for their sacrifices. They are the Madan Sara of Haiti. They travel to deliver produce and provide a large share of food to city dwellers.

It does not say there. These Haitian Madan Sara are also found in various countries in the Caribbean, South America and the US to buy products for the purpose of reselling in Haiti

Often dressed in bright colors with sharp tongue, the Madan Saras have survived throughout the years. Women in Haiti head more than 70% of Haiti's households by themselves

The Haitian Madan Sara are truely the Poto Mitan in the Haitian society
