The accldent in 2015 was not the forst time the musical group Barikad crew was involved in accident in Haiti. In 2008, four Barikad Crew members and their driver died in an accident.
At least 16 people were killed and more than 60 people were injured of stampede in an ensuing panic by the bystanders when a carnival float hit a power line in the Haitian capital on February 17, 2015. As per Associated Press news agency report, someone on the float used a pole to move a live power line out of the way so that the float could pass under it. The persons, who had received the direct contact, were electrocuted immediately with a flash of sparks. A post in the "You Tube" shows that the electric cable caught the head of a singer from the hip-hop band 'Barikad Crew' while the float was passing the presidential stand packed with spectators. The star singer of the group "Fantom" has been admitted to the hospital and reported to be still in critical condition.

Iowa-based company, Global Compassion Network, has been doing work in Haiti for the past three years to restore many of those displaced by the 2010 earthquake, back into homes. These dwelling residencies are made from grain bins -- round metal bins, which have been recycled to form what the group calls 'safe homes.' The project takes place in the village called Hope, and so far, some 220 people have benefitted from the 60 homes already erected. The project is done with help from the Sukup Manufacturing company.

While on a church service mission in Haiti in 2014, Warsaw, New York resident, Holly Todd became ill while fulfilling her duties in the hot weather expected in Haiti. Her illness was not caused by the heat, however, but by a bee sting, which led to complications of the autoimmune disorder known as Dysautonomia. Since her diagnosis, Todd, who's returned to her home, has been suffering from the nausea and vomiting caused by the disease, but more so, she has suffered a 170-poung weight loss as a result, more than half her bodyweight, and has had to be placed on a feeding tube.

A Haitian man was hanged in a tree in a park in this northern city in the Dominican Republic
Additional information out of Santiago, Dominican Republic, where a 19 year-old shoeshine man known as Tulile was found hanged, is that the young man was beaten. The incident, in which the young man's hands and feet were bound, is thought of widely as being part of a hate crime. Evidence to suggest this would be the burning of a Haitian flag by DR protesters around the same time as the news of Tulile's death broke. Still, the police are quick to say the motive wasn't racially related; they say, instead, that Tulile may have been killed for a winning 6,000 pesos lottery ticket.

Since the new year began, widespread political protests put on by the opposition and members of the Haitian public have caused the Haitian police to step up their combative measures.With many of the protests turning violent, with the burning of vehicles and the throwing of stones dominating, the authorities have taken to using the riot gear donated to them by the Palm Beach Sheriff's Office (PBSO) to quell the demonstrators. The PBSO has been giving such assistance to the country since 2010, and since then, they have made three return visits to give more aid.

Surrounded by beautiful, verdant peaks flush with fruit trees and clean air, the Mont Sinai school found near Port Salut appears as a series of blue-topped buildings in the midst of greenery. Built as an answer to the devastation that was the 2010 earthquake, Mont Sinai school is one of 15 recently inaugurated through the collaborative effort of UNICEF and the Ministry of Education in Haiti. Highlighting how timely the build is, it will be the first time plenty of children in the surrounding area will be attending school, and it also means a shorter road to education for many.

The Cathedral of St. James and St. Philip was badly damaged following the earthquake 5 years ago. As a result, weekend mass had to be held in another, rundown location where services took place on three separate floors. Soon, however, the church's leader, Bishop Saturne, will realize the dream of one community worship center for the church's patrons. Come May 1, the leaders of the church will have a new Cathedral dedicated to them through the aid of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and church officials across the world.
Haitian midfielder Soni Mustivar to join Sporting Kansas City

Soni Mustivar, a midfielder from Haiti, will be joining Sporting Kansas City as it leaves for the second half of the training camp that takes place in Tucson, Arizona before the start of the season. The football player was signed pending his receiving a P-1 Visa and an international transfer certificate in order to participate. His performance in six Haiti men's national team appearances has made his recruitment possible, and the coach of Sporting KC, Peter Vermes, has said he is sure to be an asset to them once he's learned their mode of playing.

When Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras won the court case that saw him reappointed to his seat earlier this month, he might not have anticipated that his return to presidency of the senate would also be a fight. The sitting senate president, however, Andris Riche, is not prepared to give the position up easily. Riche has said the senate will wait for a decision from the State, a decision that Desras has made plain could only be waged by an appeal of the Court's order, which is a provisional decision.

HOPE II Act likely to extend deadline until 2030
It would certainly be a shame to stop the good work being done by the HOPE II Act project that has already seen to growth of the textile sector in the country. the current deadline for the act is 2018, but Senator Bill Nelson, in US Congress on February 12, introduced the notion of extending the HOPE II Act (Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity Through Partnership for Encouragement, and the HELP Act (Haiti Economic Lift Program), which expires in 2020. Both acts seek to be extended to 2030.
