Haitian Activist Groups Stage Parallel Protests in Miami

Here is a picture where Haitian Activist Groups Stage Protests at both Haitian Consulate and Dominican Consulate in Miami.

Two groups staged parallel protests in Miami over a same issue. On the basis of recent mass deportation of undocumented immigrants in the Dominican Republic, the groups were divided on their opinions between Haiti and Dominican Republic. In front of the Dominican consulate in Miami, some 50 people were carrying Dominican flags and banners reading ""Respect our constitution," in defense of the country's immigration laws. They were gathered to reject Haiti's misstatement on mistreatment of immigrants by the Dominican Republic. While across the street, there were about 20 Haitian demonstrators in support of the undocumented immigrants. Their slogans were, "We are one", and "Down with racism". Haitian activist groups staged protests at both Haitian Consulate and Dominican Consulate in Miami.

Immigration Plan Bad for Haitian Diaspora

The Diaspora in Little Haiti is agitated by President Obama's immigration plan. His executive order says illegal immigrants in the U.S. ". . . for at least five years . . . who have children . . . either citizens or permanent residents may quality for protection from deportation."

That leaves millions out of the plan. What those that fall outside the bounds of the plan want ". . . is a chance . . . to work"

The Miami Diaspora leaders will explain the executive order at an information meeting.

Jesse Jackson and Michel Martelly

Here is a picture of American activist Jesse Jackson President Mchel Maretelly.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of his participation in the 69th Ordinary Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the Haitian President Michel Martelly had spoken to Rev. Pastor Jesse Jackson. Jackson is a well known civil rights activist, Baptist Minister and a former Democratic Presidential candidate of the United States in 1984 and 1988.

The two statesmen have talked about the rebuilding efforts of Martelly administration to come out the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 2010.

Pastor Jackson has appreciated the effort of President Martelly for inviting Haitian diaspora to invest and contribute for national development. He has promised to encourage foreign investors to invest in Haiti and invited Haitian President to an investment conference in New York scheduled in January next year. President Martelly has thanked Pastor Jackson for his
wholehearted support

Spending her entire life fighting to secure citizenship and human rights for Dominicans born of Haitian parents, Sonial Pierre passed a way last sunday. Raised in the Dominican Republic in dirt-floor barrack for migrant workers in a Batey, Ms. Pierre has been constantly denouncing what she sees as massive abuses in the Dominican Republic against people of Haitian descent and their children

Rene Theodore, Political Activist

This is a picture of Political Activist Rene Theodore.
Born in Ouanaminthe, he was a member of the Haitian Unified Communist Party

Rene Theodore was forced into exile in 1967 during Francois Duvalier and then his son, Jean-Claude reign

He is the Grandson of Former President Davilmar Theodore.

Rene Theodore lived in France and Russia. In Rusia, he worked as an anchorman for Radio Moscow's Creole news broadcasts.

Rene Theodore died of lung cancer June 2003 at age 62

Rene Civil, Member of Fanmi Lavalas

Here is a picture of the Haitian activist Rene Civil. He is a member of Fanmi Lavalas and a former leader of the group Jeunesse Pouvoir Populaire or JPP.

The JPP group was very popular and active at one point in time. The people in charge provided financial support to encourage the youth to pursue their studies in school or learn a trade.

They were also very strong supprter of the Lavalas an President Jean-Bertrand Aristide

, and set up centers where young people could get a hot meal and political education.

Viter Juste was a pillar in the Haitian community in Florida. He named Little Haiti in the city of Miami.

He is the Haitia Activist Who Gave Name "Little Haiti" Its Name. Mr. Juste passed away in 2012. and will be greatly missed.

Viter Juste was 87.
