Haitian-Canadian Jean Pascal won at the end of the 12th round

The Bell Centre in Montreal housed the underwhelming matchup of Jean Pascal and Lucien Bute recently, in which the Haitian-born Pascal shored-up his victory with little resistance from Bute. Following his victory, Pascal is now the World Champion Heavyweight Adonis Stevenson's mandatory challenger. The two Haitians are at the top of their game currently and their matchup will drum up at least as much attention as did Pascal vs. Bute.

Coderre Appoints Frantz Benjamin First Montréal Council President

Frantz Benjamin has been named the first Haitian-American Montréal Municipal Council President.

Benjamin also serves on many other boards and committees including Culture, Heritage, and Sports Commission; Pointe de l'Île School Board Executive Committee; and as Intercultural Montréal Council President.

Benjamin was a loyal ally of ex-mayor Gérald Tremblay and quit the Union Montréal party when they brought corruption charges against Tremblay. When new mayor Coderre took office Benjamin joined Coderre's party.

Naval base in the city of Les Cayes

A new naval base located in Les Cayes was officially launched in Haiti. This project is funded by the government of Canada and aims at intercepting drug traffickers. The prime Minister of Haiti indicated that the base scope will improve security in the southern region of the country. Earlier this year, the US State Department gave a report claiming that Haiti is still a point of transition for marijuana from Jamaica and cocaine from South America.

He studied at Haiti State University where he graduated with a Law degree and was licensed in law in 2000. He also obtained his Management degree and was licensed in management in 2001. He also has a third cycle diploma in Bank and financial system, CEFEB/IAE Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, 2002 (France). He worked as the North Regional Director of PROMOBANK from the year 2003-2005. He has been a Member of the Bar association of Port-au-Prince since 2000. His main languages include French, and English. Bourassa is a home of large Haitian population and various ethnic groups. Three high profile candidates are running for nomination in the forthcoming the Bourassa riding. Stéphane Moraille from NDP, George Laraque, NHL enforcer for the Green party and Emmanuel Dubourg, who is seeking selection for the Liberal party. Stéphane Moraille is an experienced lawyer specialized in arts and communication law and winner of many singing awards including a Juno for "Glee". Canadian Peacekeeper to Secure Haiti for Election Season

The UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti has been occupying the island for the last 19 years. Two of its military partners, Brazil and Canada, are joining ranks to keep Haiti safe from insurrectionists.

Canada is adding an extra 34 military peacekeepers to its Operation Hamlet mission, who will be instructed in Brazil on military procedures and maneuvers.

Defense Staff Chief, Tom Lawson, says Canada's further commitment to Haiti's safety and security will help steady Haiti during its upcoming elections.

Régis Labeaume, Quebec to build new fire station at Port-au-Prince

Régis Labeaume, Quebec City's Mayor, during a meeting with Minister of Tourism of Haiti, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin and UNESCO Special Envoy for Haiti, Michaëlle Jean, at Quebec City's Town Hall confirmed that Quebec will build a new fire station at Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. The Mayor disclosed that a fund of $2 million is agreed upon by a Quebec businessman for the purpose but the Mayor did not reveal the name of the businessman. Labeaume said that Quebec City will plan and build the fire station in collaboration with Haitians and will use Haitian labor and local Haitian raw materials to accomplish the task.

Georges Anglade - Haitian geographer, writer and politician

This is a picture of Mr. Georges Anglade. He was a Haitian geographer, writer and politician.

Georges Anglade was born on July 18, 1944 and died on January 12, 2010. Born in Haiti and acquired Canadian nationality later. He was put in jail by the Duvalier regime and a strong opponent of the dictatorship of the Duvaliers in Haiti. he studied in Port-au-Prince, at École normale supérieure and the law faculty. While living in Canada, Georges Anglade worked for the Department of Geography at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
