Haiti security improved as crime and Homicide rates decline
Finally some good news for Haiti. A recent report indicated that Haiti has seen a sharp drop in homicide rates in recent years.
This improvement in security happened just for the past five years. Homicide in 2004 in Haiti was averaging 19 per 100,000 people. In 2009, that number decreased to just three persons per 100,00.
Crime in Haiti: 2012 - 2013
As major crime increases, authorities from Haiti and the United States agreed to cooperate in fighting crime. For the past year, violent crimes such as drug trafficking, kidnapping and organized crime have increased. From May 2012 to May 2013, a total of 72 kidnappings were recorded by Haitian authorities, some of which ended fatally, and more than 1,000 homicides. There figures were provided by the National Network for the Protection of Human Rights
