"Hospital St. Croix- Leogane, Haiti" is a Leogane based hospital under the ownership of the Episcopal Church of Haiti (EEH) that operates in association with the American the Presbyterian Church. The hospital has 120 general beds for patients. The medical programs of the hospital were initiated by Reverend Pierre Thevenot in 1968 with the donation of a small dispensary by Mrs. Edith Cutler who was a regular patron of many important programs undertaken by the Episcopal Church. In the beginning, under the initial physician-directorship of Dr. Etienne, the dispensary had space for two wards only without any inpatient bed. Thereafter, in 1973-74, with the construction of expanded facilities, EEH entered into a partnership with the U.S. Presbyterian Church based in Atlanta.

Hospital St. Croix- Leogane was created out of a call by the Medical Benevolence Foundation (MBF) in 1963 to involve committed Presbyterian physicians to serve others around the world. Today it is a fully functional hospital that serves over 250,000 people in the area through its 24 hours emergency room, four operating rooms and laboratory testing facilities. It also trains and supplies several hundred midwives and community health workers to the more remote regions of the country.

St. François de Sales Hospital has been recently designated as a university teaching hospital under the University of Notre Dame of Haiti. The hospital was established in Port-au-Prince in 1881. Before the earthquake in 2010, the hospital employed 291 people and had 117 beds. The devastating earthquake destroyed 80% of the hospital building and took lives of nearly 140 patients and staff members.

Since the violent tremor, it is operating in tents, offering simple acceptable level of comfort and quality care. Now, at the original site of St. François de Sales Hospital in the heart of Port-au-Prince, a modern, 120-plus bed teaching hospital is taking shape. During the period of construction, the present facilities will relocate temporarily--for about 12 to18 months, to the Grand Seminary of Notre Dame of Cazeau, approximately twelve miles from the current site.

It is estimated that close to 25% of Haitian children are suffering from intestinal parasites.

A study conducted by Ministry of Public Health and Population; Ministry of Education, and National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation reveals 25% of children from 6 to 15 are infected with intestinal parasites.

Haiti has no quarantine law, and Haitians don't understand the deadly consequences of the parasites: abdominal pain, anemia, memory loss, and in some cases death.

Mobile school clinics have been deworming the student population ". . . but re-contamination is problematic."

The needs for a modern well run good pediatric hospital in Haiti is always great. Hospital Espoir or Hope Hospital has already 20 years of service to its credit. The hospital building that withstood the earthquake of 2010 was first constructed in 1993 to take care of the sick children on an outpatient basis. A year later, in 1994, full pediatric service was ready. Today, the fifty beds Hope Hospital is operating under the guidance of its Medical Director Dr. Max Dernnisante and the Executive Director Dr. Darlene Gousse. After the earthquake, the hospital has added other services like orthopedic and trauma care to meet the needs of patients.

In August 2011, Compassionate Resource Warehouse in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, has donated an ambulance to Hospital Espoir . Besides their regular medical staff, the hospital is supported by outside Haitian specialist doctors. The hospital has two operating rooms, a delivery room, neonatology care, emergency room, departments for ultrasonography, radiology, urology, pharmacy and a laboratory that operates seven days a week.

In the early 1960s, when the founders of the International Child Care Jim and Virginia Snavley visited Haiti for the first time they were shocked to witness the sight of dying children in the street from malnutrition, tuberculosis and many other illnesses. They felt God's call to stand by these destitute and opened a small clinic--this is how Grace Children's Hospital and Pediatric Clinic began. For the last 40 years, Grace Children's Hospital has served millions of individuals who came to its door regardless of every circumstance, belief and background. In the beginning there were a handful of beds with limited facilities but gradually the support and capacity began to grow with the thanks to the help of International Child Care, Churches, General Board of Global Ministries and individuals. After the 2010 earthquake, in addition to its continuing regular programs on inpatient and outpatient departments, the hospital served as the main food and water distribution center.

'Médecins Sans Frontières' (MSF) or 'Doctors Without Border' is a foundation originally created in 1971 by a small group of French doctors in the aftermath of Biafra War who believed that every person has right to medical care irrespective of their belief, race, creed or political affiliation. MSF is an international and federal non-governmental humanitarian-aid organization, winner of Nobel Peace Prize. The Hospital St. Louis at Port-au-Prince, Haiti has ties with the specialist doctors, nurses and medical support staff from MSF who volunteer their expertise to treat the patients of this Haitian hospital in a regular planned way. In January 2010, trauma surgeons and orthopedic surgeons from MSF had volunteered into the nights in two surgical shifts at Hospital St. Louis for 10 days to attend earthquake victims.

Hospital Sacré Coeur (HSC) with 122 beds is the largest private hospital in the town of Milot in the Northern Haiti. It was constructed by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart of the Montreal Province (founder of CRUDEM or Center for the Rural Development of Milot) in 1986. However, 'the Hôpital Sacré Coeur' they built was a simple building with an operating room without any equipment or surgeon. The building gradually took the shape of a real hospital when Dr. Ted Dubuque, a surgeon from St. Louis, Missouri joined there in 1986. Dr. Dubuque had promised God that if he recovers from a near fatal illness that he was once suffering, he would spend his life helping others. He was cured and kept his promise. He traveled to Milot, spent six months at HSC and performed 250 surgeries during his first visit. The hospital statistics for the year 2013: 49,743 outpatient visits, 5,906 hospital admissions, 119,076 laboratory tests, 2,966 X-rays processed, 1,236 newborn deliveries, 1,956 surgical procedures, 11,143 patients tested for HIV, 178 children treated as inpatients for severe malnutrition.
