This is to show you that island that was abandoned at one point is now the object of many interests as it was ranked among the top beached in the world. Now, with Santre de Sante Kay Kok that was recently built among other projects in Ile-A-Vache, the residents ave the opportunity to remain in the island for basic health care.

After the 2010 earthquake, the Haitian government had a plan to turn this beautiful island into a tourist destination. There were many infrastructure works and social projects that were underway; from roads, airport, to port and marina. There was a project for 1,000 hotel rooms, and an 18-hole golf course as well.

However in 2014 a presidential decree declared the island property of the government for tourism development purpose did not seat well many of the residents. People who have lived there for several generations went to the street to protest against the plan. They were afraid that the government would take their land

Centre Communautaire Kay Kok, Ile-a-Vache

Here is a picture of a new Community Center in the Island, Centre Communautaire Kay Kok, Ile-a-Vache. This is an island in Haiti targeted to become a major tourist destination.

Huge project works on infrastructure and social development is underway in one of Haiti's satellite island named "Île-à-Vache" or "Cow Island". The government has plans to transform this beautiful piece of land into a major tourist destination at a cost of $18.5 million. The farmers, with government support will be able to grow organic products which are in high demand, the implementation of social projects will give the 15,000 inhabitants better access to welfare, education, vocational training and basic amenities. A community center has already been created with a restaurant, computer lab, conference room and a community radio service. The construction of roads and an international airport are under construction. Out of the 2,500 homes on the island, only 180 homes will be relocated to facilitate the implementation of the project, but they will further be compensated in addition to relocation. Similarly, another 10 families will be relocated and compensated to facilitate the construction of the airport runway. The government is moving closer to transform Ile a Vache into one of the most beautiful tourism destinations in the Caribbean.

Freed Black shipped to Ile-a-vache with support of President Abraham Lincoln

The possibility for Freed Black to live in the Haitian island Ile-à-Vache was a real possible solution contemplated to solve the the "Race problem" in the U.S.

In, 1863 President Abraham Lincoln encouraged the shipment of 453 freed slaves from Virginia to the Haitian island of Ile-a-Vache. They were mostly men and women from Virginia. The experiment failed due to inadequate planning and poor leadership. In less than a year, the survivors returned to the U.S. The island is located off the southern coast of Haiti, close to the town of Les Cayes.
Ile-a-Vache has its history of pirates including Captain Morgan, a British pirate who led several buccaneering expeditions across the Caribbean to attack Britain's enemies

Abaka Bay, Ile-a-Vache, classified 57th most beautiful beach in the world

Here is something that will make Haiti proud. At least it is a welcome news for the tourism industry in Haiti that has been working hard to make things happen.

In its edition of May 28, 2013, CNN, conducted a survey to rank the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world. Ile-à-Vache came out in very good position. In fact, according to the survey,
Abaka Bay, Abaka, Indian name of Ile-à-Vache was ranked the 57th most beautiful beach in the world.
