Jimmy Carter was heavily involved in Haiti politic. In December 1990, Jimmy Carter went to Haiti to convey the message to to Aristide that he predicted that Aristide would lose and urged him to drop out. The final count proved to be the opposite where Aristide won with a majority of 67 percent of the votes.

In September 1994, former president Bill Clinton asked Jimmy Carter go to Haiti and negotiate the departure of Haiti military government in order to restore the presidency of former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide.

The eradication of lymphatic filariasis in Haiti by Jimmy Carter and U.S. Ambassador Kenneth Merten

The Haitian Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), the former President Jimmy Carter and U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Kenneth Merten have decided to fight a disease that has affected many Haitians. They plan to eradication of lymphatic filariasis in Haiti. They are also putting a large sum of money behind this campaign as well.

$1.5 million will be spent into this campaign. The money will be used for medication and to pay the staff for the eradication of the lymphatic filariasis, also known as elephantiasis.

lymphatic filariasis is an infectious disease caused by some type of roundworms. Filariasis diseases are transmitted by blood sucking insects, such as flies, mosquitoes or copepod.

Jimmy carter and  Rosalynn Carter to build homes in Leogane with Habitat for Humanity

Former US president does not understand the word retiring as he is embarking in this new project in Haiti. Accompagned with the former US first lady Rosalynn Carter, President Jimmy Carter plans to build 100 new homes with the help of his organization, Habitat for Humanity.

The city of Leogane that was severely affected was chosen as the site for these new homes.

President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn Carter will arrive in Haiti on November 7th, 2011. The one hundred homes will be built specifically for those families who were affected by the 2010 earthquake.
