Jan Mapou of the eponymous cultural center is also the owner of Libreri Mapou, South Florida's foremost book store stocking Haitian books. He told a media outlet South Florida Haitian authors have been self-publishing and don't have the tools provided by the big publishing houses to promote themselves to more Haitian readers.

Performances by a Haitian folkloric group will be the evening's entertainment, who will also open the all-day (10-6) street fair on Sunday. Activities planned for the fair include Caribbean cuisine, arts and crafts, and a dance workshop. Two sponsors, the Mapou Cultural Center and the Knight Foundation are teaming up to support the event.
