The Gardens of the MUPANAH

Here are some pictures marking the official opening of the Gardens of the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH).

On June 19, 2015, the inauguration of the Gardens of the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon (MUPANAH) took place in the presence of the Directors General of the institutions of the Ministry of Culture, several senior state officials, diplomatic representatives and representatives of the various cultural institutions and museums of Haiti. 'MUPANAH' is a modern museum built mostly below the earth's surface where the conical central 'well' will bring light to illuminate the gold monument recreating the cannons and banners found on the national flag. Its unusual design reflects the style of Haiti's original Taíno inhabitants. Here the bodies of Toussaint Louverture, Dessalines, Christophe and Pétion are interred below and the names of famous independence heroes are marked on the surrounding walls. The first phase of this landscape area covers an area of around 10,000 square meters and includes a restaurant, museum shop, a play area for children, multipurpose room, benches, an amphitheater, bathrooms, an infirmary, and a service for schoolchildren vehicle.

Anchor of Santa Maria at Musée du Panthéon National Haïtien

Here is a picture of the Anchor of Santa Maria located at Musée du Panthéon National in Haïti

Recently, a site in Caracol was visited by 3 archeologists from the Spanish Government with the purpose of excavating the same spot where, in 1796, the anchor of the Santa Maria was found. The anchor, part of the fleet of Christopher Columbus, was found in Fournier-Bellevue and remains today one of the biggest draws at the Musée du Panthéon National Haïtien (MUPANAH) where it has been since April 7, 1983. Engraved with scenes that depict the Spanish arrival as well as the genocide of the indigenous people, the anchor is an illustrative part of the permanent collection, also depicting some scenes from the 16th to 17th century rule of the European military.
