The decision of Claudy Gassant to leave his position came after a week following an incident with Joseph Manes Louis of the Parquet of Port-au-Prince. His friend was let go for insubordination. Mr. Gassant finally gave stepped down in August 2008
Haiti Police SWAT Team
The Haitian National Police's specialized SWAT unit recently celebrated its 17th anniversary in the presence of Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe who brought with him the commendation of President Martelly. He disclosed in a briefing that, through the efforts of the SWAT team and the wider Haitian Police, safety is improving in the country. The instances of crimes of violence, including kidnappings, have gone down due to the continued patrolling of the streets, preventing criminals from finding locations to operate.
Community Policing in Haiti
The impending batch of Community Police Officers, mainly sourced from the 23rd Promotion of the Haitian National Police, await graduation and the call of duty at the end of June. Set to serve in the Delmas region of Port-au-Prince, the members of the special community unit will be the link between police and civilians and will hopefully bring about a change towards trust between the community and the PNH. The National Police in Haiti has detained Mr. Yvon Antione, also known as ZapZap only days after the assassination of Haitian banker. He is one of the suspects. According to commissioner Harry Auguste. This is was reported by Haitian radio station Radio Kiskeya.
The radio station also reported that according to Mr. Mayard Paul who is a close advised to President Michel Martelly, So far three political activists have been arrested for the crime.
Later on, a source from Haiti National police did confrim the arrest of Lavalas Militant, Yvon Antoine, AKA, Yvon Zap Zap. However, police wanted the public to know that the arrest was it was not related to the crime of Guiteau Toussaint
