The final count proved to be the opposite where Aristide won with a majority of 67 percent of the votes.

In September 1994, former president Bill Clinton asked Jimmy Carter go to Haiti and negotiate the departure of Haiti military government in order to restore the presidency of former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
