The group Les Vikings d Haiti popularized a variation of Haitian Compas, known as Compas Swing, in the Lesser Antilles, where it caught on like wildfire.
Les Vikings at one point were the source of Kompas music. Majority of the musicians who performed in Petion-Ville and later formed their own distinct group received their formation with Les Vikings D'Ha ti.
Great Compas band such as Kassav had a sprinkling of hits in Haiti, especially the super-hit Ti Paulette . But Teu Leu Leu became a mega-hit for them, featured on their compilation release, Retro Album. All of that is due to the band Vikings d Haiti
Elements of Vikings d Haiti's music inspired the great Compas band Kassav through its co-founder, Pierre Edouard Decimus, a former member of Vikings d Haiti.
Vikings d Haiti's lineup includes vocalists Venus Blanchard and Weiner Destiny lead sax player Camille Yvon guitarists Felix Augustus, Anthony Charles, and Felix Wilner, bass guitar percussionist Robert Felix, drummer Edward Derodel, and tom-tom player Charles Perrault.
Vikings d Haiti's music is very lively with a fast tempo and a lead sax which threads its way through each song, driving the melodic line. By listening to them, one can readily see how they and other mini-jazz groups presaged today's Comp's and Zouk music
