Haitian Dance movement originated from Vodou Ceremony

The dances and ritual in Saint Domingue, now Haiti were born to preserve sacred and social art forms, customs and beliefs as it was very hard for the slaves to maintain their culture during the colonization period. Many of these dances originated from Voodoo gods and goddesses (or L'wa) that are part of Haitian Vodou spirit. As a method to celebrate and influence these Lwas, various dance movements have been created over time
