Jean Renel Senatus during Anti Gay Protest

A far-right religious group, upset over a gay-rights proposal to permit gays to wed, blanketed Port-au-Prince in a mass demonstration against same-sex marriage. Haitian Coalition of Religious and Moral Organizations were vehement, vowing to set Parliament on fire while in session, if they considered the proposal.

One coalition member said, "Haiti is not going to accept this." Haiti does not have any laws on the books opposing same-sex couples to marry, another reason for the group's outrage.

The most prominent Haitian personality rumored to be Gay is the former Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis. The nomination process of former Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis was a chance and opportunity to bring the issue of homosexuality in the front burner in the country. Although Ms. Pierre-Louis became prime Minister, that was possible only after reading a public statement declaring the rumors to be false. No political parties in Haiti have endorsed LGBT or "Masisi" rights.

Here is the organization KOURAJ during the International Day Against Homophobia.

Support for LGBT or homosexuality by the Haitian government has been non-existent for most of Haiti history. In fact, most political leaders in the country and organizations which have arisen are largely hostile to LGBT rights. Some people who have been following closely the Haitian history think the the lack of support of Gay, Lesbian or "Masisi" in the Haitian society has a lot to do with their strong ties to the Catholic Church or fundamentalist Protestant.

The Haitian society does not have great tolerance for cross-dressers. These people are often made fun of and are often seen as people with mental issues

That particular constitution does contain many legal provisions that is likely to affect the human rights of LGBT or homosexuality in Haiti or as it is stated in Haitian Creole, Masisi
