Martelly Swears in Me Cantave as Court of Cassation President
President Martelly presided over the installation of the Me Cantave, the new Court of Cassation President and Judiciary Superior Council. Cantave promised to enforce laws on the books for ". . . a sound and impartial distribution of justice . . ." Cantave is replacing the unpopular Me Joseph.
Martelly also attended the 5th promotion of EMA graduates, reminding them they ". . . must fight the good fight . . . for a neutral, impartial justice . . ."

These elections are of fundamental importance for Haiti according to the United Nations mission in Haiti as they welcomed calendar for elections
UN Stabilization Mission greeted with elation an official calendar for elections later this year. The UN and the international community are teaming with the Electoral Council to organize fair, inclusive, and transparent elections. When Haitians vote they will help to install the 50th session of Parliament and a new president in early 2016.
The UN Mission in Haiti is tasked with giving logistical and technical support to the government in order to facilitate the rule of law nationally and locally.

Oriel Jean was prepared to testify in court against former Haitian president Aristide, whom he had knowledge of ordering the murder of broadcast journalist Jean Dominique. Before Oriel could appear in court he was assassinated following death threats against him by Aristide loyalists.
Oriel said he had knowledge Aristide ordered ex-senator Mirlande Liberus "to silence Jean Dominique". SOS Journalists have urged the authorities to make certain the murderers of Jean are brought to justice.
Sergey Kovalev stops Haitian boxer Jean Pascal
Former world champion Haitian boxer Jean Pascal was bitten by Sergey Kovalev who retained his three 175-pound world title belts at the Bell Centre in Montreal
Jean Pascal, in a crushing blow, lost the light heavyweight title to Sergey Kovalev. Pascal was knocked out by Kovalev in the third round. He rebounded to connect with some hard-hitting blows in the fourth and fifth rounds. In round eight Pascal was knocked down again, the referee declaring Kovalev the winner by a technical knockout.
Pascal challenged the outcome, asking for a re-match. Kovalev will agree to it pending a decision by his handlers.
Draft revision of the Haitian Penal Code
Here is a pictured of the Draft revision of the Haitian Penal Code as President Michel Martelly is holding it.
The National Palace was the scene of the presentation of a new draft of the penal code that has not undergone significant changes in 180 years. President Me Exume of the Presidential Commission for the Reform of Justice did the major work on it.
President Martelly received the draft in the presence of Prime Minister Paul as well as other government officials. Martelly emphasized the historic, sociological, and political significance of the modernized penal code. The new Parliament in 2016 will officially adopt it.
Hilton Garden Inn to open in Haiti in 2017
The tourism industry seems to be loking at a potential great future in Haiti as many major Hotel chains are investing there. The latest is Hilton Garden Inn which is scheduled to be open in in 2017
Hilton has inked an agreement with the Haitian Tourism Ministry to open the first Hilton Garden Inn at Port-au-Prince's Louverture International Airport. The hotel will contain 150 guest rooms along with eight suites. The suites will contain all the amenities of a home away from home, plus a space for working.
The hotel project will create 100 employment opportunities. Hilton has a highly-regarded hospitality training program to ensure business travelers the very best service.

Jean-Max Bellerive, Haitian politician
Jean Max Bellerive is a former prime minister, who served under Rene Preval. He was born in Port-au-Prince in 1958, to a well-known doctor. His father sent him to study in Europe in Switzerland, France, and Belgium, where Bellerive earned two degrees in political Science and International Relations.
Bellerive replaced Prime Minister Michele Pierre-Louis unable to competently carry out her duties. When President Martelly took office Bellerive resigned to permit Martelly to appoint his own prime minister
Haiti Election 2015
The election process for 2015 has started. Haiti Election dates, August 9 Senate, October 25 for Deputies and President.
The Haitian Electoral Council has made public the dates for legislative and local elections and the presidency also. Balloting for senate and lower chamber seats will occur on August 9th. Elections for the presidency and city and local elections will happen on October 25th. Political parties who want to run their candidates need to register for the electoral list by May 9th.
Currently President Martelly is ruling by decree as Parliament folded January 15th.
