Joseph Pierre Richard Duplan, the previous mayor of the capital city Port-au-Prince was a man committed to rebuild the city. He understood that the redevelopment cannot be done without the involvement of municipality citizens. He built community platforms to raise awareness and resolve grievances that the common people are facing. He built several municipal garages in the capital city which helped to decongest various arteries of the capital. Furthermore, under the guidance of the Ministry of Interior, he established a municipal police force to maintain law and order, manage traffic in the city, and to assist the National Police of Haiti.
Inauguration of the Place Sainte-Anne, in Port-au-Prince
The public square of the Place Sainte-Anne, home to the bust of Professor Emeritus, was recently renovated to make it a community attraction once more. With its new lease on life, the square got a new inauguration, attended by President Martelly and Prime Minister Paul, along with other government members and a United Nations representative. The Place Sainte-Anne sits on a 7,000 m2 parcel of land, complete with a field for multiple sports and 330 seats. There is also an entertainment platform, public toilets and an administrative block, as well as small gardens.
Muscadin Jason Jean-Yves, the Mayor of Port-au-Prince
Since the 2010 earthquake, the city of Port-au-Prince has been the center of many issues in Haiti. The Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Muscadin Jason Jean-Yves, has been in the forefront, advocating for a plan to bring the Haitian capital back into its feet. The Mayor of Port-au-Prince is working on a plan to get Haitians all over the world involved in the reconstruction of Port-au-Prince. Recently, mayor Muscadin Jason Jean-Yves unveiled a 3.3 billion dollars plan to rebuild the city of Port-au-Prince. The plan was developed by the Haitian Center for Research in Management and Development (CHRAD) and submitted to president Michel Martelly. It is a comprehensive plan that will address several important issues such as housing and environment
Haiti Palais Legislatif
Here is the Palais legislatif in Haiti that was destroyed in the 2010 earthquake. This building was the official place for the Senators and Deputees to conduct the business of the country.
A temporary place was constructed recently to allow the Senate and the Deputees elected with a plan to built a permanent one in the future
Gabrielle Hyacinthe, the mayor of Port-au-Prince
The Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Gabrielle Hyacinthe anounced several projects to help in cleaning up the Haitian Capital city. Ms. Gabrielle Hyacinthe told everyone that the Communal Asylum and also the Town Hall are to be relocated. There will also be a large clean up operarion in Port-au-Prince, starting June, 2012
