Haiti and the threat of Avian Flu (H1N1 virus) from the Dominican Republic
The ongoing Haiti cholera outbreak is the worst epidemic in Haiti recent history. As of January 2013, Cholera has killed the lives of more that 7,900 Haitians and hospitalized hundreds of thousands more.
Several cases of avian flu (H1N1 virus) was just reported in May, 2013in the neighboring country the Dominican Republic. About 8 cases have been confirmation there. Although no case of the avian flu (H1N1 virus) has been reported in Haiti, many experts think it is a matter of time before people start being affected by the virus.
The Haitian government implemented a ban of meat products, particularly poultry, eggs and live animals potentially infected or carriers of the Avian Flu from the Dominican Republic
