Jacques Roumain was born on June 4, 1907 and died at an early age on August 18, 1944

He was a writer, politician, and advocate of Marxism. He was a renowned writer in the Caribbean and Latin America. He was also appreciated in America as the great African-American poet, Langston Hughes, translated several work from Jacques Roumain. His most popular work was Gouverneurs de la Rosée (Masters of the Dew) in which he touched many aspects of Haitian life and culture.

Jacques Roumain is one of the Haitian writers who is still known today. He died suddenly at an age of 37 and the cause of his death remains undetermined

This is the Haitian writer Jacques Stephen Alexis. He was born in Gonaives in 1922. His father was, Stephen Alexis, who was also a writer.

Jacques Stephen Alexis was mainly influenced by other Haitian writers such as Jacques Roumain. Some of his works
include: 'Compère Général Soleil', written in 1955, 'Les Arbres musiciens' and 'L'Espace d'un cillement'.

Georges Anglade - Haitian geographer, writer and politician

This is a picture of Mr. Georges Anglade. He was a Haitian geographer, writer and politician.

Georges Anglade was born on July 18, 1944 and died on January 12, 2010. Born in Haiti and acquired Canadian nationality later. He was put in jail by the Duvalier regime and a strong opponent of the dictatorship of the Duvaliers in Haiti. he studied in Port-au-Prince, at École normale supérieure and the law faculty. While living in Canada, Georges Anglade worked for the Department of Geography at the Université du Québec à Montréal.

This is the picture of the Haitian poet Oswald Durand. Not only that Oswald Durand was a Haitian poet, he was also a politician. Many people see him as the Shakespeare of Haiti.

Born on September 17, 1840, in the city of Cap-Haïtien, Oswald Durand was a teacher and later was elected to Congress in 1885. He held that position for six times

Oswald Durand passed away on April 22, 1906.

Haitian historian Georges Corvington

Here is a picture of the Haitian historian Georges Corvington who passed away on April 3rd, 2013 at his residence in Port-au-Prince.

He was a prominent Haitian historian. Mr Georges Corvington died peacefully
He was b in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince and began writing in the 1970s. He has collected a large volume of books. Hes preferred subject in his writing include Haitia National Palace and National Cathedral.
His longtime friend Georges Michel said that Covington had recently spent a few weeks in the hospital and the family stated that the cause of death was heart failure.
The office of President Michel Martelly released a statement on the occasion. He said that with Covington's passing the country had lost a "treasure of inestimable value."
