Rolin Jean (50 yr old), is the newest millionaire in Florida. He is one of the few luckiest men to win the Powerball Jackpot that had reached over $1.5 billion. He has matched the five white balls in Wednesday's (January 13, 2016) historic ‪Powerball‬ drawing. There are two other winners as well in this world's largest jackpot-- one from California and the other from Tennessee. Rolin purchased his ticket from Orion Gas, located at 10301 Northwest 7th Avenue in Miami. The retailer will receive $100,000 for selling the jackpot-winning ticket. The Florida winner's share (1/3rd) of the jackpot comes to $528.6 million, the lotto says. Powerball drawing on January 13, created with an annuity value of $1,586,400,000 was the largest jackpot in world history. The winning white ball numbers announced at 9 p.m. on January 13 were: 8, 27, 34, 04, 19 and the Powerball was: 10.

On March 17, 2015, Eric Jean Baptiste, owner of the "borlette banks" known as the Père Eternal Lotto while cleaning his gun at home has shot himself when the gun went off. The accident occurred because Eric did not realize that there was another bullet left in the gun. Eric was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. However, after receiving necessary care he is now in stable condition at the Canapevert hospital. The earlier report suggested that he was shot in the stomach, however, his family sources have confirmed that he was shot on his shoulder. Eric Jean Baptiste is a known businessman and a mayoral candidate from Port-au-Prince in Haiti.

An estimate in 2005 revealed that the streets of the Haitian capital city were home to nearly 2,000 the "banques de borlette", more than double the number of schools and universities in Port-au-Prince. Haitians spent over $1.5 billion per year on the borlette, an astounding amount for a country whose GDP in the year 2009 was $6.9 billion! During the same year, there were eleven private companies to run banques de borlette in Port-au-Prince; the largest one had hundreds of franchises.

In a sense, "Borlette" is a temporary but tangible license to fantasize about everything the poor Haitians would do if suddenly money becomes no object. The poor people are too deeply (and expensively) engaged in the fantasy for their own good. They dream of lucky numbers, Even the voodoo priests are enlisted for help.

The Haitian State Lottery of the LEH that was reopened on July 2, 2013 aims towards promoting safe lottery sale and responsible gambling and will help Haiti's economic growth through creation of jobs - both direct and indirect. The target is to normalize gambling in Haiti and to modernize the LEH establishment through implementation of ample computerized systems. The Ministry of Economy and Finance will provide necessary support and resources to LEH for proper functioning.

Gambling in Haiti is very popular and it is legal by Haitian constitution. Anyone who has reached the age of 18 is allowed to participate in gambling. When it comes to casinos, there are only two of them legally operating in the country.
