School runs for Restavek, Foyer Maurice Sixto

Foyer Maurice Sixto is a school named after the famous sociologist Maurice Sixto where the school runs with a motto "all children are children and they have same and equal right. The school is located 30 miles west of Port-au-Prince in Carrefour, Haiti. It was founded in 1989 and invites "restavek children". "Restavek" are the children mainly come from the countryside families who cannot support their children send them to live in well off families in the towns who promise to offer them better lives and education in a city center but the children are often mistreated, forced to do manual labor, cooking, cleaning, and other household chores. The restavek children live here in an family environment. They are offered free food, education and professional training.

Maurice Alfrédo Sixto is affectionately called Moy. He was born in Gonaives, Haiti on 23 May 1919. He is unquestionably the biggest name in Haitian literature with many other interchangeable characters like, sociologist, storyteller, revolutionary, humorist and moralist. American comedian Ben Stiller, who has been working in Haiti since 2010 to promote education and to build schools through The Stiller Foundation, gave a new direction to Haitian cinema. He merged his film making interest with his interest in promoting education and joined forces with Ciné Institute. Ciné Institute is the only film making school in Haiti. Stiller joined the Institute and discussed why film making education is vital. He pointed out that films do not only create job opportunities but they also help people to express their emotions and to tell their stories to the world.
