Ecuador and Haiti flags

Here is a picture of both Ecuador and Haiti flags.

The flags of Haiti and Ecuador will flutter together. They have a relationship built on cooperation. Since the last visit of Haitian President Martelly to Ecuador to meet Ecuadoran president Rafael Correa in July 2012, the two brotherly states have deepened their bilateral relations and cooperation in areas such as health, education, migration, technology, air transport and infrastructure. During their meet, the Ecuadoran president warned President Martelly against neocolonialism and the need for increased regional integration. Ecuador has extended its support to rebuild L'Artibonite area devastated by the 2010 earthquake. Both of these two nations are affiliated with ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas) where Ecuador is a core member, and Haiti is an observer state. A little known fact about the Haitian flag should be worthwhile to mention here that it was only in the 1936 Olympics, people realized that Haiti and Lichtenstein shares just the same flag! In the next year, a crown was added to the Lichtenstein flag.

December 20, 2001 Guy Philippe arrested in Quito, Ecuador

Guy Philippe, a former Tonton Macoutes leader, former Haitian Police Chief, and a presidential candidate (Front for National Reconstruction, a guerrilla group) in the Haitian General Election 2006, was arrested on 20 December 2001, in Quito, Ecuador. He was arrested for masterminding a deadly attack on the Police Academy in July 2001 and of an attempted coup in December 2001. Earlier to that in 2000, he was removed from his post as police chief of Cap-Haïtien following an accusation of participating in a coup attempt in October 2000 and Philippe fled to the Dominican Republic. He received police training from the U.S Special Forces in Ecuador in the early 1990's and he was once wanted by the United States for smuggling cocaine. He was even accused by the Human Rights Watch for being a part of a death squad leadership (Tonton Macoutes) during the reign of Baby Doc Duvalier.

Minister Jean Rodolphe Joazile to form armed forces soon

Haitian Defense Minister, Jean Rodolphe Joazile announced that Haiti will soon be forming its armed forces. He reported that this decision came after the support received from France, Brazil, Uruguay and Ecuador. He reported that the initial batch of recruits will be trained in the countries supporting Haiti and that 50 men from different backgrounds are already undergoing training in Ecuador and will be replacing the Ecuador's armed forces operational in Petite-Riviere in Artibonite. Joazile said that no labels will be attached to the armed forces because all that matters is to have Haitian armed forces who can take control and protect the vulnerable and fragile nation.

Former police chiefs Godwork Noel and Jacky Nau

Former police chiefs Godwork Noel (left) and Jacky Nau (right). Based on information obtained from the weekly newspaper Haiti Progress, in the United States, these two were involved in a campaign against the democratic movement in Haiti. The report stated that both Godwork Noel and Jacky Nau received military training by U.S. Special Forces.

In October eleven senior police commanders tried to stage a coup D'etat agains the Haitian government; however, the plot was uncovered and officers fled to Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. Those who fled to DR include: Guy Philipe, Mesilor Lemais, Seide Didier, Dormel Jacques Patrick, Fritz Gaspar and Noel Godwork.

The Haitian government formally requested the repatriation of six of the police Officers who had fled to the the Dominican Republic, accusing them of conspiring to overthrow the government. The repatriation did not take place.

Here is a group of 40 new Haitian soldiers formed by Ecuadorian army.

On Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at the Training School of Ecuadorian Army soldiers (Escuela de Formación de Soldados del Ejército) at the Champ de Mars located at the northern exit of Ambato, the third city at the south of Ecuadorian capital city Quito, a graduation ceremony was held for 40 new Haitian soldiers of engineering body. The graduation ceremony was chaired by the Brigadier General, Edison Narváez Rosero, the Commander of the Command of Education and Doctrine of the Army (CEDE). The ceremony was witnessed by other Ecuadorian military personnel like General Carlos Obando and Commander of the Army Division, Christian Toussaint. The Haitian Ambassador in Ecuador José Maria Egas, Undersecretary of the Ministerial Cabinet and civil and military authorities were also present during the occasion. The New graduates have completed a training program of 8 months under the framework of bilateral cooperation between Haiti and Ecuador that started on January 12, 2015.

Ecuador to regulate illegal Haitian Immigrants

Following a request from President Martelly to his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa, the Ecuadorian government has adopted a new policy measure from August 4, 2015 which would regularize the residential status of any Haitian living in Ecuador without proper document before May 4, 2015. Under this provision, any eligible Haitian national may apply between August 11 and November 11, 2015, for a nonimmigrant visa type 12-XI, valid for a period of six months. Once the visa is obtained, the beneficiary becomes eligible to apply for a migrant visa. It has been estimated that the new immigration procedure will benefit over 20,000 Haitians who are presently living in Ecuador without proper documents.

Jean Jacques Dessalines, Alexandre Pétion in Quito, Ecuador

A new "Haiti Plaza" proudly located in the square of the capital capitol city in Quito to honor two of Haitian leaders and the flame of 1804. In May 2015, Ecuador unveiled the statues of Haitian forefathers, Jean Jacques Dessalines who was the first president of Haiti after its independence and Alexandre Pétion considered as the Father of Pan-Americanism, and the statue of a flame with the inscription of "Haiti 1804".

On Wednesday, May 6, 2015, on a new plaza, located on the square of the capital city Quito, Ecuador unveiled two statues of Haitian forefathers, Jean Jacques Dessalines, the first President of Haiti after its independence and Alexandre Pétion, the second President of Haiti and Father of the Pan-Americanism. There was another statue of a flame with the inscription of "Haiti 1804". As their affiliation with ALBA (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America), Haiti and Ecuador both enjoy pretty good relation. Ecuador is a core member of ALBA, and Haiti is an observer state. Their bilateral relation centers on the immigration policy, as Haitian immigration to Ecuador has increased dramatically. Ecuador is a good contributor of several development and stabilization projects in Haiti. Since Martelly's last visit to Ecuador in July 2012, the two nations have deepened bilateral relations and cooperation in areas such as health, migration, education, air transport, technology and infrastructure.

Here is a picture of both Haitian President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent lamothe as they arrive at the National Palace Carondelet in Quito, Ecuador. the two Haitian authorities will be holding talks with his Ecuadorian president, Rafael Vicente Correa SEM.

A Haitian delegation which included President Michel Martelly and his Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe traveled to Quito, Ecuador earlier in November to be likewise met and hosted by Ecuadorian members of government. The meeting held at the National Palace Carondelet was meant to help fortify the bonds between the two country as Ecuador has been offering technical, political, humanitarian and economic aid to Haiti. President Martelly spoke directly with President of Ecuador Rafael Correa about the shared interests of education of the Haitian police force, migration and commercial flights between the two countries.

Rafael Correa, the President of Ecuador to visit Haiti

Acting President of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), Rafael Correa, who is also the president of Ecuador will pay a visit to Haiti on September 27, 2011. Mr. Rafael Correa will spend sometimes talking to the Haitian president. Following the meeting with Martelly, The Ecuadorian president will fly to the department of Artibonite, specifically in L'Estere to visit the U.N. Peacekeeping force from Ecuador.
