Haitian-American Karl Racine elected D.C. Attorney General

Son of Haitian immigrants, Karl Racine elected D.C. attorney general

The people have spoken and the first ever elected attorney general for D.C. is Karl Racine, born of parents who immigrated to the United States from Haiti. He succeeds Vincent Gray, who was appointed to the spot by the mayor in 2011. Winning the title by dominating the 145, 000 votes with a 35% command, 51-year-old Racine beat out four others, all democrats, for the position. With this new appointment, it is hoped that the role will be changed from an administrative post to a more traditional, political one.
