Here is a picture of former Haitian Dictator Francois Duvalier and his wife, Simone Ovide Duvalier as we are looking at Haitian wedding tradition.

The fare served at a wedding reception in Haiti or of Haitian influence is almost certainly Creole. Food is so important at the ceremony that a huge part of the entire wedding budget is spent on its preparation. The cooking is done by family members and include the favorites like diri ak pwa (rice and beans), salads, plantains, pikliz and meat dishes like griot, goat, conch and chicken. Wine, tea and beer is usually served, and, depending on the size of the party and the wedding's budget, whisky and champagne may make an appearance.

Rebel Marcel Numa and Louis Drouin executed by Francois Duvalier Duvalier

The execution of Rebels Marcel Numa and Louis Drouin by the forces of Francois Duvalier regime. This was an event that probably marked many people who were living in Haiti in 1964. Children were released from school all over the country to come and watch this horrifying act, the execution of Rebel Marcel Numa and Louis Drouin by a firing squade.

On November 12, 1964, Francois 'Papa Doc' Duvalier commanded the execution of rebels Louis Drouin and Marcel Numa, the final two members of the ill-fated group which had been campaigning against him. By then, the other resistance members had been killed during combat. That day, offices of the government closed their blinds while students were pulled from schools to witness as the two men were tied to posts made of pine, read their last rites, and shot by firing squad.

Haitian Flag Under Francois Duvalier changed in 1964 to black and red

Haitian Flag Under Francois Duvalier changed in 1964 to black and red

Let me make this clear. neither Francois Duvalier nor his son Jean Claude Duvalier created the new Haitian flag.

In 1964, the Haitian Dictator Francois "Papa Doc" decided to abandon the Red and Blue flag that has been adopted by haitians for over a century and return to the black and red colors. which was flown for the first time by Jean Jacques Dessalines, the founding father of the nation.

From 1964 to 1986 the Black and Red flag was the official flag of the nation. It would not change until the end of the Duvalier reign, when Jean Claude Duvalier went into exile in France. At that point, it was restored to red and blue.

Throughout the history of the Haitian flag, whether the colors are red, blue or black, it has remained a symbol of pride for many Haitians. Some would make you believe that the flag is deeply rooted in the Vodun religion and Jean Jacques Dessalines was in a temple of the religion in Merote, Haiti when he created the flag. Following the death of Dessalines, the country was divided with Henri Christopne in the North, holding on to the Black and Rd, while Petion in the South, red and Blue flag
