Could you believe this, Haiti is making a name for itself in a sport that you probably would not believe. Haiti's national street hockey team has become the winner of the B-pool of the Street Hockey World Championship. The team defeated the Cayman Islands

Haiti's First-Time Win of Hockey Trophy

In a surprise win, Haiti's National Street Hockey Team (NSHT) beat the Cayman Islands 4-2 to earn the championship trophy in Switzerland. Haiti, not very experienced in the sport, was carried to victory with the aid of Haitian-Canadian players.

The International Street and Hockey Federation eased up on the rules to allow the Haitian-Canadian players to participate using their superior puck skills to nab the trophy. NSHT was coached by Haitian-Canadian Georges Laraque.

Hockey is a Canadian pastime, not so much for Haiti. However, one young man, born to Haitian parents, could become the first Haitian-born star in the National Hockey League. Last season alone, the Canadian winger, who is only 19 year-old and stands at 5 feet 11 inches, brought in impressive numbers for the Quebec Ramparts when in 59 games he brought in 50 goals and 49 assists.

Anthony Duclair joins the ranks of others of Haitian descent who are hockey players, such as Haitian-born Claude Vilgrain, however, he has the potential to be the brightest star yet.

The Canadian professional ice hockey defense man PK Subban visited haiti as this was his first visit to a poor country. He went to Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti on behalf of Hockey for Haiti.

The Haiti trip helped the player for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL), PK Subban, to see life differently since.

PK Subban also observed many destructions in Haiti caused by the 2010 earthquake around Port-au-Prince.
