Recently on September 5, 2015, Olivier Martelly, the son of Haitian President Michel Martelly was noticed arriving at Montigo Bay airport in Jamaica accompanying his father who came to attend PetroCaribe conference in the city. There were reports that he has been held in the U.S under house arrest in charges of money laundering, tax evasion and narcotic trafficking from Colombia via Haiti to the U.S. The picture of his arrival in Jamaica might put an end to the rumor of his arrest, but it will definitely generate more questions with his underworld connections and freedom.

New InterCaribbean Routes to Increase Travel to Haiti

Regional airline, InterCaribbean Airways (ICA), will inaugurate new routes to serve the region. Already new non-stop service between Kingston and Port-au-Prince, and Port-au-Prince to Santo Domingo has begun.

ICA CEO Trevor Sadler says, ". . . these new routes . . . give . . . choices and more connectivity across the Caribbean . . . to the vacation visitor" The new routes will also make possible growth for Haiti's economy as business travel increases.

Dutty Boukman (Boukman Dutty), a self-educated Haitian slave born in Jamaica
He was one of the most visible early leaders of the Haitian Revolution who conducted the "Bois Caïman" religious ceremony in which a freedom covenant was affirmed, a catalyst to the slave uprising that marked the beginning of the Haïtian Revolution.
Boukman was killed by the French in November, just a few months after the beginning of the uprising. The French then publicly displayed Boukman's head in an attempt to dispel the aura of invincibility that Boukman had cultivated.
