Rene Theodore was forced into exile in 1967 during Francois Duvalier and then his son, Jean-Claude reign

He is the Grandson of Former President Davilmar Theodore.

Rene Theodore lived in France and Russia. In Rusia, he worked as an anchorman for Radio Moscow's Creole news broadcasts.

Rene Theodore died of lung cancer June 2003 at age 62

Gérard Pierre-Charles was born on December 18, 1935 in the historic city of, Jacmel and passed away on October 11, 2004, in Cuba
Pierre-Charles was an economist, author. He was a Haitian politician and former leader of the Unified Party of Haitian Communists. He later became a supporter of the politic of Jean-Bertrand Aristide. His activism dated back a long time. Gérard Pierre-Charles was one of the founders of an underground Marxist party which took birth in 1959. During the dictatorship of Francois "Papa Doc" Duvalier, he was forced to go into exile in Mexico where he spent 26 years. He studied Economics and became a teacher and finally returned to Haiti in 1986.

This is the Haitian poet, René Depestre. He was born on August 29, 1926 in the city of Jacmel, Haiti.

René Depestre is a Haitian poet and former communist activist.

He published his first set of work at the age of 19, with his first collection of poetry, appeared in 1945, with Étincelles. Rene Depestre had the chance to meet many Haitian intellectual contemporaries, such as Jean Price-Mars, Léon Laleau, and René Bélance,
Politically, Depestre was involved in the revolutionary student movements of January 1946, which led to the removal of President Élie Lescot from office. Following the movement, he was arrested and spent some time in jai. Upon his release from jail, Rene Depestre was exiled and . He studied political science at the Sorbonne from 1946 - 1950.

Jacques Roumain, Famous Haitian writer

This is a picture of a famous Haitian writer, Jacques Roumain.

Jacques Roumain was born on June 4, 1907 and died at an early age on August 18, 1944

He was a writer, politician, and advocate of Marxism. He was a renowned writer in the Caribbean and Latin America. He was also appreciated in America as the great African-American poet, Langston Hughes, translated several work from Jacques Roumain. His most popular work was Gouverneurs de la Rosée (Masters of the Dew) in which he touched many aspects of Haitian life and culture.

Jacques Roumain is one of the Haitian writers who is still known today. He died suddenly at an age of 37 and the cause of his death remains undetermined

Jacques Stephen Alexis, born in Gonaives

This is the Haitian writer Jacques Stephen Alexis. He was born in Gonaives in 1922. His father was, Stephen Alexis, who was also a writer.

Jacques Stephen Alexis was mainly influenced by other Haitian writers such as Jacques Roumain. Some of his works
include: 'Compère Général Soleil', written in 1955, 'Les Arbres musiciens' and 'L'Espace d'un cillement'.
