Michaëlle Jean, new secretary general of la Francophonie

A refugee from Haiti, Jean came to Canada in 1968. After graduation from university in Canada, she worked as a journalist and broadcaster for Radio-Canada and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation CBC.
Haiti's current UNESCO special envoy, the former governor-general of Canada, Michaëlle Jean, was named as the new secretary general of the French-speaking nation's union, la Francophonie.
In her assent to the post, she beat out others including the president of Burundi, a diplomat and writer from the Congo, and the premier of Mauritius. Before politics, Jean worked as a journalist on Canadian radio. Now, at 57 year-old, she will take the helm from former secretary general, president of Senegal,Abdou Diouf.

Michaelle Jean UNESCO Envoy to Haiti is a candidate for Secretary General of the International Francophone Organization. She attended the 69th UN General Assembly, meeting with foreign donors to talk about Haiti's reconstruction.
At "Every Woman, Every Child" initiative she spoke, saying "Our world is facing many challenges . . . as the outbreak of the Ebola virus reminds us . . . Together we can show what can be achieved when all wills are gathered" referring to the Francophone community.

In an efort to have Limonade University to start serving the country soon, President Martelly has appointed Micha lle Jean to head the University Commission.
Michaelle Jean is a former Canadian governor and UNESCO's special envoy Haiti.
She will be in charge the commission that will ensure the university is up and running in a year's time.

The notion that you can be all you want to be is a concept that the Haitian born Michaelle Jean is very familiar with and practices very well. As she was appointed as the new chancellor of University of Ottawa, Ms. Jean will have to decide whether she want to keep her current position as UNESCO
special envoy for Haiti.
As chancellor of University of Ottawa, Michaelle Jean will likely not bee able to keep her current position that she has been performing so well. She was an advocate for the poor, the uneducated and the women in Haiti.
The former Governor General of Canada, Michaelle Jean studied at the Universite de Montreal before becoming a teacher at the university's department of modern
languages and literatures.
