French President Nicolas Sarkozy And Rene Preval
The French president Nicolas Sarkozy made a historic visit in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. He was the first French president to visit Haiti since the country 's independence in 1804. During the visit, he also announced additional aid of more than 100,000 to Haiti.
France has a long history with Haiti. The Haitian revolution was a period of conflict where the slaves of Saint-Domingue revolted against the French colonization. On January 1, 1804, Jean-Jacques Dessalines declared Haiti a free nation, the first indecent nation in Latin America and the first post-colonial independent black led nation in the world
