Haitian Identification System

Haitian Identification System

Issued upon maturity at age 18 to all Haitians, the National Identification Card is a non-transferable paper that is acceptable nationwide and has an official status. This personal ID card is mainly for identification and is a right of each Haitian. Flaws in the system have made it so that many Haitians are still without their National ID's. Persons wishing to gain their identification papers should contact the National Identification Office, the organization tasked with registering Haitian citizens.

Haiti among least diverse countries in the world

Haiti among least diverse countries in the world

Haiti, one of the least culturally diverse countries in the world in 2013

Based on a study done on more than 180 countries, it was concluded that Argentina, Haiti or the isolated Comoros islands off the southeast coast of Africa are the countries least culturally diverse.

On the other hand, countries like Chad and Togo, with more than 37 tribal groups that speak more than 39 languages and where the various groups did not share common culture or history were most culturally diverse.

Argentina, the Comoros, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Rwanda and Uruguay rank as the world's least diverse countries

A caution: Cultural diversity is a different concept than ethnic diversity

Haiti Population and the problem of overcrowding

Haiti Population and the problem of overcrowding

The country of Haiti is now 9.72 million inhabitants strong. The majority of the population is young with 58.5% of the inhabitants are aged between 15 to 64 years, followed closely by the 38.1% that is accounted by the 0 to 14 years age group. The elderly population in Haiti is also of great significance. Those aged 65 and above are the minority as they constitute 3.4% of the entire Haitian population.

The growth rate has declined as a result of the 2010 earthquake and also due to large number of Haitians leaving Haiti for a better life elsewhere.

Other problem related to current overpopulation in Haiti is overcrowding.
