Here is a picture of the former manager of the musical group Barikad Crew, Youri Chevry. In this picture, he is seen with Anick Francois, He was installed as the new mayor of Port-au-Prince. Youri Chevry does understand that the job of a mayor, specially that of a mayor of Port-au-Prince is extremely difficult.

On June 28, 2016, Youri Chevry (born October 14, 1967), the former manager of the musical group Barikad Crew has been installed as the new Mayor of the capital city, Port-au-Prince. For those, who wanted to know whether he would continue with his band 'Barikad Crew', Sassoune, the person closest to him said, as the present mayor of Port-au-Prince, he has relinquished his management duties, but would continue his association with the band. In the late 1980's, Youri went to Brooklyn to study management and sound engineering. He came to the musical arena much before the Gracia Delva era. In 2003, he joined Konpa Factory, Inc. as a director. The company was responsible for booking and promoting Bel Jazz in Haiti. Youri lost his wife and 11-year-old daughter in the 2010 earthquake. In last October, when he was campaigning as a candidate for mayor of Port-au-Prince under LAPEH banner, Yuri with his Jeans, loose shirt sleeves looked much different from his other contenders in the political race. He talked in a calm, little hesitant way about his plan for the youths and the capital city. As the new mayor, he has promised to make Port-au-Prince a clean city, the safety and security of every citizen will be ensured with the support of PNH and MINUSTAH. The municipal administration will work to encourage and stimulate the return of businesses in the downtown Port-au-Prince.

Jean-Baptiste Riché instrumental in 1807, siege of Port-au-Prince

Jean-Baptiste Riché instrumental in 1807, siege of Port-au-Prince

Jean-Baptiste Riché was instrumental in Christophe's victory at the Battle of Siebert on January 1, 1807. During the siege of Port-au-Prince in 1811,

Jean-Baptiste Riché ousted President Pierrot with the supports of his capable rebel mulattos along with much of the support of the Haïtian army. After becoming the president, his first act was to restore the Constitution of 1816 which was practically the revised version of the Constitution of 1806 written by Alexandre Pétion. He created the "Maison Centrale", a boarding school for homeless boys. He died on February 28, 1847 while in his office due to the overdose of Cantharide aphrodisiac properties. The Riché's presidency is often considered as ineffective by some historians. However, it is an established fact that he opened many ways of changes in the Haitian political landscape that were followed and adopted by some of his succeeding administrators. Thus, his presidency is often considered as the turning point in the history of Haïtian politics.

250th Anniversary of Port-Au-Prince and President Florvil Hyppolite

250th Anniversary of Port-Au-Prince and President Florvil Hyppolite

These Haitian bank notes were created in commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of Port-Au-Prince and President Florvil Hyppolite

Born as Louis Mondestin Florvil Hyppolite, he was a black man of the elite class who was chosen by the Constituent Assembly of Haiti, on a meeting in Gonaives on October 9, 1889, to be the nation's president, a title he would hold for a period of seven years. The decision was made following Hyppolite's clash with the then president, François Denys Legitime, who Hyppolite would overthrow. Within that war it is said Legitime had the backing of France and the British, while Hyppolite had tried to secure that of America by guaranteeing the US a Haitian region named Mole Saint Nicolas. From the deal, Hyppolite would receive aid and additional security.

Palais des Ministères, Port-au-Prince, HAITI

Palais des Ministères, Port-au-Prince, HAITI

Even four years after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the dragging pace of reconstruction is nowhere apparent other than the capital. Too many people died, the National Palace, Palace of the Ministries, many other monuments and important government buildings were severely damaged by the earthquake.

The President has admitted that part of the problem was that some of the promised international aids were never disbursed and a large portion of the money around 42% had been spent on the post-earthquake emergency alone and not for following reconstruction works.

The government has started clearing the old Palace Of Ministry since March 16, 2013; the responsibility has been vested on a Dominican firm ADOM. The five departments of the Palace of Ministries will be reestablished at a cost of $ 65000,000. The first buildings that will be built are the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) and the General Administration of Customs (AGD). Now there will be only three buildings in the block, viz. MEF, DGI and AGD with parking space and office for some 2,000 employees.
