Taiwan Partners with Haiti on Reconstruction Projects Now and in the Future. Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou is committed to help Haiti rebuild the country. He assured President Martelly Taiwan will never abandon Haiti but aid in moving the country forward.

Taiwan,. mulling over the possibility of a solar energy program to help slash Haiti's energy costs, says the savings could be used for critical rebuilding projects.

Taiwan has already funded road construction and will tackle agricultural development in the future.

Haiti New Court of Cassation inaugurated by Ma Ying-jeou

Here is a picture taken during the ceremony of inauguration of the new Court of Cassation by President Michel Martelly and Ma Ying-jeou of Taiwan.

Earthquake-Proof Court of Cassation Opens. Taiwan has completely funded the rebuilding of the Court of Cassation at $15.8 MM USD. Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou presided over the launching ceremony.

Martelly said, ". . . with international cooperation as sustained . . . as . . . offered by Taiwan . . . we will . . . advance in rebuilding the country."

The new building is seismically improved with updated security features and will improve the rule of law, according to Martelly.

Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou in visit in Haiti

Ma Ying-jeou, President of the Republic of China, still considered by most of the world as beholden to Mainland China, planned his trip in the western hemisphere around a visit to Paraguay. This visit was for the witnessing of the inauguration of Horacio Cartes, Paraguay's President-elect. It is a strategic move as well as a diplomatic and symbolic gesture, as Taiwan depends on Paraguay, the only country in the South of America that recognizes its sovereignty.

Haiti remains one of only 23 world countries that recognize the sovereignty of the Republic of China. The President, Ma Ying-jeou made Haiti one of its stops during a recent tour of those Caribbean nations which give Taipei its support. Also on President Ma's itinerary for a visit is Paraguay, the only South American country that recognizes Taipei, ST. Lucia, ST. Kitts and Nevis and ST. Vincent and the Grenadines. The support is important to the Asian island as Mainland China still considers it as part of its holdings and objects to other country's offering diplomatic recognition.

Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou - To help build Cour de Cassassion in Haiti

Scheduled to be completed by 2015, the ground for the $16 million dollar Supreme Court building, funded by the government of the Republic of China, was broken recently by the presidents of both countries. Speaking at the occasion was the Republic's President, Ma Ying-jeou, who said he was heartened by the move to use the donation for this project as it spoke to Haiti's serious consideration for the 'rule of law'. The original courthouse was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake.

Haiti and Taiwan, what a friend for

Haiti has demonstrated to be a friend of Taiwan for a long time. The island of Haiti one of 23 countries to recognize Taiwan as a self-governing island. As a consequence, Haiti put itself in direct conflict with Mainland China that considers Taiwan as part of its territory. China objects to diplomatic recognition of Taiwan by other countries.

Diplomatic relations between Haiti and Taiwan were established in 1954, five years after the late Chiang Kai-shek moved his government from the mainland China
In addition, it has been supporting Taiwan in its ongoing and unsuccessful effort to gain admission to the United Nations.
In return, Taiwan has been one of Haiti's most consistent allies and dependable in the area of aid.

Taiwan donates million to Dominican Republic for university campus in Haiti

The original plan of the Dominican Republic to build a University in Haiti received a push from a friendly country. Taiwan just donated $1.0 million to support the project. The Taiwan's diplomat handed the check today to head of the State Works Supervisory Office in the Dominican Republic.

The Government of the Dominican Republic came up with a plan to build a University in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake. The proposed Haitian University which was made by president Leonel Fernandez is expected to have a capacity for 10,000 students. In addition, the University is to be equipped with the latest technologies of the 21st Century
