The Queen Doña Sofía of Spain visits Haiti

The Haitian president has the honor to welcome Queen Doña Sofía of Spain who arrived in Haitia on October 7, 2011 for a short visit of 48 hours.

Both the Haitian president Michel Martelly and his wife Sofia came to Toussaint Louverture airport in Port-au-prince to welcome the Spanish delegation.

While in haiti, Queen Doña Sofía took the opportunity to travel to Titanyen to witness the progress of the construction of a wastewater treatment plant. She also made stops to to Cité Soleil and visited the Sisters of Charity who have been involved in a variety of projects such as health, nutrition and the promotion of women in Haiti.

In August, 2011, the Haitian President Michel Martelly paid a visit to Santiago, Chile to gain more knowledge about Chilean experience in dealing with earthquake. Accompanied by the Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Alfredo Moreno, President Martelly visited several housing projects for victims of the on February 27, 2010 earthquake.
As you may remember, Chile experienced a major earthquake on February 27, 2010. However, unlike Haiti the people of Chile are better prepared than in Haiti to deal with major catastrophe.

President Michel Martelly in Caracas, Venezuela for First CELAC Summit

The first Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) took place in Caracas, Venezuela.

Michel Martelly who attended, took the opportunity to meet Hugo chavez and thank the Venezuelan government for fuel shipments to Haiti via Petro-Caribe Agreement.

The Venezuelan government sent thousands of tons of food aid in the aftermath of the quake.
