Haitian Embassy evicted in Pretoria for Rent Non-Payment

Haitian Embassy evicted in Pretoria for Rent Non-Payment

Here is a picture of the Haitian Embassy in Pretoria South Africa as possessions of the property were taken to a storage after a judge had had ordered the local sheriff to remove the belonging.

The order was issued this Friday and the eviction procedure took place on Friday as well.

On July 18th, Judge Janse van Nieuwenhuizen of the Pretoria High Court has given an attachment order under the principle of "tacit hypothec", to attach all the moveable properties of the Haitian embassy in Waterkloof, in Pretoria for non-payment of rent for 10 months aggregating US$44,265 (South African Rand 550,500). When as per the court order, the local Sheriff accompanying his men arrived at the embassy and started loading a truck with furniture of the embassy, they were stopped by the embassy staff who argued that their property cannot be attached as they enjoy diplomatic immunity. Earlier, the staff had called the Diplomatic Police and had informed that an armed robbery is taking place in the embassy premises. When the Diplomatic police arrived at the spot, they found none other than the Sheriff and his men. However, the embassy staff were informed by the landlord's legal representative that diplomatic immunity is not available on commercial transactions like rent payment.

The Embassy was located at:
826 - 830 Government Avenue
Eastwood, Pretoria. 0083
Gauteng - South Africa

USAID Helping Haiti

USAID Helping Haiti

Here is a picture of USAID logo as the agency is involved in helping Haiti rebuild after the 2010 earthquake

U.S. Beneficiary of Aid Assistance, not Haiti. Although $10 billion was pledged to Haiti to rebuild the country after the 2010 earthquake, just 9,000 homes have been built. USAID admits the main beneficiary of U.S. aid is the U.S. Every dollar USAID has spent, less than 1 cent has gone to Haiti.

Contractor Chemonics got more USAID money than any other company. The truth is foreign firms use aid money to promote ". . . U.S. foreign policy objectives and priorities."

Smuggling at the border with the Dominican Republic

Smuggling at the border with the Dominican Republic

Here is a picture of the usual activities that take place regularly on the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic where many smuggling operations take place

As per news report dated July 1, 2015, Carl-Frédéric Madsen, the President of the Association of the Industries of Haiti (ADIH) has expressed his deep concern about the rising smuggling activities in the border area with the Dominican Republic and also in the provincial ports and the capital city. Smuggled merchandises create unfair competition and threaten the existence of the local Haitian traders and manufacturers by pushing them towards bankruptcy. Such act of smuggling is further weakening the national security through illicit goods and curbing the state revenue by $300 million, every year. ADIH has urged the state to take immediate actions to eliminate this scourge as it is threatening our national economy. The fight against smuggling will encourage our local businessmen and create many new investment opportunities. ADIH is ready to extend their unconditional support in this movement.
