On Friday, September 25th, 2015, the General Assembly of lawyers has formed a new Council of the Bar of Port-au-Prince. The outgoing Secretary Mr. Stanley Gaston has been unanimously elected as the new President of the Bar of Lawyers of Port-au-Prince for a two year term. He would replace the previous President Mr. Carlos Hercules, who has completed his two year term since 2011-13, but contested for a second term unsuccessfully. The list of other new elected office bearers includes: Mr. Jean Bergemane Berrette, (Secretary), Mr. Wébert Paul (Treasurer) and 11 new councilors. Mr. Carlos Hercules during his speech has described the coming election as a roof which would help the lawyers to continue and discharge their duty successfully. Me Stanley Gaston, the new President has promised to work under the guidance of the outgoing President, he has been elected to his new responsibility because the members of the Bar were satisfied with his accomplishment.

Lawyers took to streets for Andre Michel

The protest of lawyers in support of Andre Michel began at 10:30 in the morning on the site of the old courthouse facing the National Palace and continued on to the Ministry of Justice. The crowd of over a hundred was organized and supported by a number of bars. They called the arrest of Michel unlawful and arbitrary. Their stance was for the freedoms and rights of lawyers.

Attorney Louis Lissade  Claims Senate Report Anti-Martelly

Attorney Louis Lissade has denounced a report issued by Senate Inquiry Committee (SIC) regarding Judge Joseph's death. Biased, it ignores tenants of law and reason. It also violates the Constitution Senators are sworn to uphold.

Conclusions of the investigation suggest President Martelly be impeached. Furthermore, SIC advices Martelly to sue Lissade.

Lissade, outraged his reputation has been smeared, says the report needs ratification by the Upper Chamber but it is divided on the issue and ratification is uncertain.

Attorney Samuel Madistin on presidential family corruption

Haitian attorney Samuel Madistin accused the presidential family of corruption. According to the renowned attorney, President Michel Martelly's son and artist T-Micky receives $50,000 in cash money, on a Monthly basis for public entertainment. He said in the meantime, more popular musical bands like Orchestre Tropicana D'Haiti, T-Vice or Djakout Number One don't get anywhere close to make this kind of money on a Monthly basis.

According to attorney Madistin, T-Micky has been the leading performer for communal events all over the country by members of the parliamentarians and is being paid $5,000 for each performance by the Presidential team

Mario Joseph is a Haitian human rights lawyer

Mario Joseph is a Haitian human rights lawyer

Here is a picture of Haitian human rights lawyer, Mario Joseph. He has been named Haiti's most prominent human rights lawyer. Since 1996, Metre Joseph has been in charge of the Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (BAI) in Haiti. His role is to represent political prisoners, poor people, and victims of political violence.

Mario Joseph studied at École Normale Supérieure and Gonaives Law School. His first major job was with the Catholic Church's Peace and Justice Commission. then went to work with the BAI in 1996.
He became popular as the lead lawyer for the victims of the Raboteau Massacre trial. As a result of this trial, three former members of Haiti military were deported from the United States to face charges in Haiti, including: Jean-Claude Duperval. Working for the Center for Justice & Accountability, Mario Joseph help secure damage recovery of more than $400,000 USD from former Col. Carl Dorélien.

This picture of Me. Constantin Mayard Paul taken during an interview at Télévision Nationale d'Haiti. He was one of the most eminent men in Haitian law, Mr. Constantin Mayard Paul. He was brilliant in bringing arguments to court and his oratorical skills is second to none.
Some of the highlights of his career include the legal fight he had delivered in the 70s against the interests of Jean Dominique. He died at the age of 78. one of his son, Me Thierry Mayard Paul . Mr. Gervais Charles, mentioned the death of Mr. Constantin Mayard Paul "end of an era."

He described it as an avant-garde and the first professional lawyer of Haiti who has devoted much of his career in business law.
