The Dreads in Haiti united in protest against Police behavior

On December 2, 2014, Several hundred Haitians with dread took to the streets of Port-au-Prince to protest recent aggression by the Police National. According to some who were participating, Police have targeted recently some people with Dread hear style to cut their hair.

Dreads, also called Dreadlocks, are matted coils of hair. It is done by leaving the hair and not brushing or cutting the hair. This will allow it to tangle together leading to twisted, matted ropes as it grows. This type of hair is named as dreadlocks.

Dread became popular and a fashion statement during the 1970's when reggae music gained popularity. Dreads were adopted by prominent authors, actors, athletes and rappers. The Freeform dreadlocks are created by allowing the hair to knit together naturally into locks

To become a dread, does an individual have to stop brushing, combing or cutting his hair?

This is the popular Edwidge Danticat, Haitian-American author.

She was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti but her parents left the country when she was only two years old.
Danticat wrote her first short story while living in Haiti about a girl who was visited by a clan each night. Two years later she published her first work in the English language titled "A Haitian-American Christmas. She later published many of her works such as Breath, Eyes, Memory (young adult novel, 1994), Krik? Krak! (stories, 1996), The Farming of Bones (novel, 1998), Behind the Mountains (young adult novel, 2002, part of the First Person Fiction series), After the Dance: A Walk Through Carnival in Jacmel, Haiti (travel book, 2002), and many more

The government of Michel Martelly has taken a bold decision to try to resolve the current crisis in Haiti. He formed a Commission Consultative with the objective to collect the results of all the meetings with various sectors of the population and make a recommendation to the president based on the results of these meetings.

Michel Martelly interview with journalists TV5 Monde, France

Here is a picture of the famous interview that Haitian President Michel Martelly gave to three journalists of TV5 Monde in France in November, 2014. This interview actually received lots of comments from Haitians both inside and outside of the country.

One his recent short tour of France, Haitian President Michel Martelly spoke with journalists from famed TV5 Monde who grilled him on topics from abortion in Haiti, to the possibility of him running the Caribbean country by executive decree. On the former, Martelly addressed the concerns of Deside Fanm (Women Decided) and Solidarity of Haitian Women (SOFA) which put forward that abortion is a matter of choice. On the latter issue, the potentially negative backlash of his ruling by executive decree was discussed with human rights defense organizations who feel the thought is grossly undemocratic.

Here is a picture of both Haitian President Michel Martelly and Prime Minister Laurent lamothe as they arrive at the National Palace Carondelet in Quito, Ecuador. the two Haitian authorities will be holding talks with his Ecuadorian president, Rafael Vicente Correa SEM.

A Haitian delegation which included President Michel Martelly and his Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe traveled to Quito, Ecuador earlier in November to be likewise met and hosted by Ecuadorian members of government. The meeting held at the National Palace Carondelet was meant to help fortify the bonds between the two country as Ecuador has been offering technical, political, humanitarian and economic aid to Haiti. President Martelly spoke directly with President of Ecuador Rafael Correa about the shared interests of education of the Haitian police force, migration and commercial flights between the two countries.

Burns was undoubtedly referring to Mayor Smith's predecessors Andre Pierre, who during his time referred to the daughters of a councilman as prostitutes and issued police-like badges to his staff members, as well as ousted former mayor Lucy Tondreau, who was found in connection with a mortgage fraud scheme valuing $8 million.

The execution of Rebels Marcel Numa and Louis Drouin by the forces of Francois Duvalier regime. This was an event that probably marked many people who were living in Haiti in 1964. Children were released from school all over the country to come and watch this horrifying act, the execution of Rebel Marcel Numa and Louis Drouin by a firing squade.

On November 12, 1964, Francois 'Papa Doc' Duvalier commanded the execution of rebels Louis Drouin and Marcel Numa, the final two members of the ill-fated group which had been campaigning against him. By then, the other resistance members had been killed during combat. That day, offices of the government closed their blinds while students were pulled from schools to witness as the two men were tied to posts made of pine, read their last rites, and shot by firing squad.
