This was the day for Marc Arthur Phebe, along with four other police officers and two private security company SGS unit to give their side of the story in the charge of kidnapping brought against the businessman Clifford Brandt.

With tears in her eyes, he flat out denied any involvement wit kidnapping activities

2010 Earthquake - Venezuela Contribution

Venezuela was "the first country to respond", became the first country to forgive Haiti's foreign debt after the quake.

Venezuela was also one of the first countries to deliver emergency assistance to Haiti after the quake

Following the earthquake, Venezuela sent 400 personnel to establish camps for the internally displaced in five towns: Jacmel, Petit Goave, Grand Goave, and Leogane. These camps served 5,413 families - over 25,000 individuals

Over $22 billion collected for Haiti, where did the money go?

After the 2010 earthquake, foreign governments, international institutions, and philanthropists pledged $13 billion and collected more than $9 billion in public and private donations for humanitarian aid or reconstruction in Haiti

Haiti security improved as crime and Homicide rates decline

Finally some good news for Haiti. A recent report indicated that Haiti has seen a sharp drop in homicide rates in recent years.

This improvement in security happened just for the past five years. Homicide in 2004 in Haiti was averaging 19 per 100,000 people. In 2009, that number decreased to just three persons per 100,00.

Crime in Haiti: 2012 - 2013

As major crime increases, authorities from Haiti and the United States agreed to cooperate in fighting crime. For the past year, violent crimes such as drug trafficking, kidnapping and organized crime have increased. From May 2012 to May 2013, a total of 72 kidnappings were recorded by Haitian authorities, some of which ended fatally, and more than 1,000 homicides. There figures were provided by the National Network for the Protection of Human Rights

Marriott Hotel in Port-au-Prince, the plan

An investment of $45 million dollars should net Digicel Group much profit as they make plans to open a Marriott Hotel in Port-au-Prince. The planned 173 room hotel saw its groundbreaking recently and, upon completion, will be owned by a unit of the Digicel Group and run by the Marriott International chain of hotels. Construction is expected to last for one year and should consist of the building of 168 guest rooms plus 5 luxury suites replete with the requisite amenities.

Hotel Oloffson , Haiti

With the gothic loom of its main building, the Hotel Oloffson speaks of time-honored service with a certain je ne sais quoi. Originally built in the late 1800's as a home, the building was used as a military hospital before being turned into a hotel in 1935. Since then it has given inspiration to a New Yorker cartoonist, was featured in the autobiography of Max Hardberger and also was the inspiration behind a fictional hotel in a 1966 novel by Graham Greene.
