Michel Martelly wants MINUSTAH transformed to development mission

While on a visit to Chile, Haitian president made his intention known about what he wants out of The United Nation Peace keeping force, MINUSTAH. According to the Haitian president, Michel Martelly, the 12,000 soldiers that make the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti could be used in a better way than maintaining peace in Haiti, which is their only function at this time.

Chile is a major contributor to the UN force. The former Chilean foreign minister Mariano Fernandez is currently the head of MINUSTAH in Haiti. In addition, 500 Chileans are among MINUSTAH, providing security and peace keeping in Haiti

Martha Stewart, Terry Lundgren of Macy's and fashion designer Rachel Roy in Haiti

At the invitation of Terry Lundgren who is the Chief Executive Officer of the retail store Macy's, the popular business woman Martha Stewart and the fashion designer Rachel Roy were all in Haiti to look at Haitian art and explore ways for the retail store to continue to do business with Haitian artisans. Martha Stewart took the opportunity to do some shopping in the city of Croix des Bouquets where she purchased some art pieces.
All three were in Haitian with the objective to find some business opportunities as well as promoting more foreign investments in the Caribbean nation of Haiti.
