Street Art, Redesign Common Areas in Haiti

Haiti has a tradition to illustrate the street walls with unique contemporary iconography. They are mostly depiction of hand painted advertisement on the vehicles or display of religious, cultural or political imageries. In most popular expression and forms of Haitian visual arts, including the internationally acclaimed contemporary Haitian paintings, the roots of Haitian voodoo iconography can be easily traced, although it is not fully recognized institutionally. Recently in the late May, the French Institute in Haiti has launched a two week long project named "Street Art, Redesign Common Areas" which started at the residence of the French artist Bault who has agreed to work jointly with the Haitian artists to create collaborative murals to redesign the streets and public places in some of the selected parts in the Haitian cities.
